Ray White Streamlines Brand Consistency with Canva Enterprise on AWS
Ray White's adoption of Canva Enterprise, powered by AWS, has not only streamlined their marketing operations but also showcased the power of generative AI in enhancing productivity and efficiency. By leveraging AWS's cutting-edge technologies, such as Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) and G5 instances, Canva Enterprise can harness the capabilities of GPU-accelerated image processing, enabling Ray White's teams to create high-quality, on-brand marketing materials with ease.
2019Canva Chooses AWS to Support 55 Million Global Users
Canva migrated to Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) to gain more control over its databases and to work with a mature cloud provider with more integrated offerings. With 55 million monthly active users—many in developing markets such as Brazil and Indonesia—who have created over five billion designs, or 100+ designs per second, Canva needed a way to support its fast-growing customer base. Cloud computing was a natural choice from the start, to align with the company’s global vision as well as for storage and processing needs for the huge data sets generated from designs and supporting images. The migration paved the way for other innovations using machine learning.
The beauty of AWS is that it works the same way with 100,000 users as it does with 100 million users.”

Canva Works with AWS Professional Services to Augment Security with Data Lake
To accelerate the deployment and reduce the cost of developing a solution to enhance Canva’s IT security posture, AWS Professional Services recommended a cloud-based data lake. Canva can now process and store more than 50 million log records every day and enrich them with additional threat indicator information. The solution allows Canva to quickly search and analyze log data through visualizations and dashboards, which speeds up detecting potential threats and compromises so the company can respond proactively before cyberattacks occur.

Canva Helps the World Design the Future with Data-Driven Insights Using AWS
In this video, Fawaz Ahmed, Canva’s director of engineering, talks about how data drives the business. Each week, the design platform handles around 100 billion events and 400 TB of data. Canva uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) solutions to help it manage and scale its data infrastructure. Specifically, Amazon Kinesis allows it to process and analyze streaming data, giving even non-data specialists—such as its product managers—the insight they need to deliver value to customers.
We need to be laser focused on our customers, who are leaning into the magic opportunities that machine learning and artificial intelligence give us. Amazon Kinesis helps us focus on our customers—and focus on the opportunities for our business.”

2023How Canva Saves over $3 Million a Year in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) Costs
With more than 100 million monthly active users who have created billions of designs, Canva handles massive amounts of data. In fact, it stores more than 230 petabytes of data in Amazon S3. Being able to use different storage classes designed for varying access patterns and workloads is critical for the company to operate cost-effectively at scale. By migrating around 130 petabytes of infrequently accessed user data to Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval, Canva is saving more than $3 million a year.
2022Canva Scales Text to Image to 100 Million Users Quickly Using Amazon SageMaker
Canva wanted to introduce a new text-to-image function to its 100 million monthly active users. Working on premises, Canva would have needed 6 months of dedicated work and hundreds of GPUs. Instead, using Amazon SageMaker, Canva implemented this feature in only 3 weeks and applied content moderation to these newly created images using Amazon Rekognition.
2021Canva Helps Enterprises with Design Tools Powered by AWS
Launched in November 2019, Canva for Enterprise helps teams of up to thousands of users share designs and create together seamlessly, regardless of location. Teams create more than six million presentations in Canva each week. AWS allows Canva to scale on demand. Additionally, Canva uses Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) for image processing, Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for data storage, and Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Personalize for a tailored user experience.
Being on AWS gives us credibility in the enterprise space by enabling us to check every box and answer our users’ security questions confidently.”

Becoming a Leader in Sustainable Best Practices with Canva
Canva is more than a digital tool, it is also a leader in supporting sustainability best practices. Canva has reached a 90 percent reduction in cloud service emissions and using the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Customer Carbon Footprint Tool, it can forecast future emissions and strategies to reach its sustainability goals. To better understand how Canva uses AWS, the Fix This team sat down with Mike Williams, head of sustainability at Canva.
2021Canva Joins the Climate Pledge
Canva has a strong heritage of supporting sustainability, and it is the first Australian company to sign The Climate Pledge, signaling its commitment to a more sustainable future. In 2019 Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge with Global Optimism to give organizations a way to join forces to address climate change. Since then, more than 200 organizations—including Canva—have joined in commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
