AlmaLinux is a free, open-source, community-driven Linux distribution designed to provide a stable and secure operating system for enterprise environments. It is a 1:1 binary-compatible fork of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), created as a replacement for CentOS after its shift to CentOS Stream.
AlmaLinux is supported by the AlmaLinux Foundation and offers long-term support, making it ideal for servers, cloud computing, and other enterprise use cases.
With this VM you will get AlmaLinux Version 9 GUI based Linux desktop environment packed with open source productivity tools & applications up & running in minutes.
This VM comes with the GUI environment available to you as compared to other available VM offers in the marketplace which do not have GUI by default.
It includes:
- RDP based remote desktop environment
- Fish- shell with command auto suggestion and completion
- Visual Studio Code
- Firefox Browser

Login to instance using SSH via key based authentication. Use "ec2-user" as userid (refer https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/putty.html for details on how to connect using putty/ssh)

Once connected using ssh/putty, run below command to set the password for "ec2-user" user on the terminal

Once the password is set for ec2-user, from your local windows machine, goto start menu. On the start menu, search & select "remote desktop connection". In the "remote desktop connection" wizard, provide public IP of your instance & click connect.

In the displayed window, provide "ec2-user" as userid & password set in step 2 above.

Now you are connected to the desktop environment of the VM where you can access out of box AlmaLinux GUI environment.
