This workshop helps break down the vision for data mesh right up to a use case. It provides a methodical approach of a LVT (Lean value tree) to co-create the vision, top business goals needed to move closer to the vision, articulating the hypotheses which an organization can create to achieve the prioritized goals and ultimately identify the relevant initiatives that lead us to validate the hypotheses. All this while there’s an eye for measures of success (MoS) at each step of building the LVT.

Activities

• Day 1 Give an intro to Data Mesh, set and align expectations with business and technical stakeholders. Topics include: Intro and workshop agenda, What is data mesh, Our experiences
• Day 2 What challenges would we encounter when applying data mesh at org? identify business use cases and the OKRs for them. Exercises include: OKRs/LVT, Use cases driven by OKRs
• Day 3 Form Data Products specific to Org. Identify some domains together with business stakeholders. Exercises include: Identify data product, Deep dive into creating specific data products
• Day 4 - Break for TW synthesis and building recommendations
• Day 5 - Summarize experiences back to business leaders, discuss next steps for Data Mesh
• Day 1 and 5 are done with business and technology leaders only

Deliverables

• Lean value tree capturing your vision, goals, and bets
• A defined set of key value hypotheses and specific measures of success
• A prioritized list of analytical use cases to seed the discovery effort to follow
• Described the main challenges that hold back from achieving its full data potential in the org.
• Identified potential use cases and their associated data products and enabling services.
• Outlining next steps for starting the Data Mesh transformation, beginning with a full-scale discovery + MVP of a chosen data product aligned with its potential use case.
• Understand which AWS Services may be a good fit to your business like the adoption of S3, SQS, SNS, AWS Glue and others.
