    Overview

Apache HTTP server has been running millions of websites of all varieties and it is one of the most popular open source applications also. The Kurian AMI bakes the latest version of Apache HTTP server software onto the target Linux distribution updated with latest OS patches. A node spun out of this AMI will be ready to be added to a cluster or further configuration immediately.

The AMI has PHP and supporting modules also installed including MySQL client modules. So, the PHP applications can connect remotely to MySQL compatible databases, including AWS RDS Aurora and MariaDB. If a database is needed locally, the LAMP stack AMI by Kurian is recommended instead of this AMI product. Also, the AMI is configured for Ansible to work with the nodes spun up from it.

Kurian has released pre-configured software applications such as Wordpress, Jenkins, databases, LAMP stack, Ansible, DevOps tools, and monitoring applications that are widely used by system administrators and DevOps engineers. For selected Linux distributions hardened images based on CIS benchmark are also available. The Kurian AMIs are built following official installation steps so you do not need to learn any custom procedures if additional configurations need to be done.

    Highlights

    • Apache HTTP Server with support for PHP.
    • AMI generated with latest OS patches and Ansible support
    • Support to connect to remote MySQL databases.

    Reviewed on Jul 21, 2023
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Running an Apache web server in CentOS gives good performance and security. Installing and Configuring httpd in CentOS is very simple. The website runs smoothly with no lag, and Running a high load shouldn't be a problem. With a reverse proxy, we can secure our webserver from hackers.
What do you dislike about the product?
we no longer get centOS for free, and we have to purchase from the AWS marketplace basis on hours
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Good performance. It can accept more incoming requests and there is no lag in the website. Configurations and code changes updates are easy to make

Apache has Good efficiency and performance on Centos 7

    Reviewed on Jul 17, 2023
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Apache runs smoothly and efficiently on Centos 7, and we have been facing very few issues with performance. It works effectively with the LAMP server and is simple to install. Code changes and configuration changes reflect very quickly in the web server. I can only say that Centos 7 is very good for running a Web Server that we may obtain from the AWS marketplace and that is highly adaptable. even though Centos 7 is not official anymore and we can still get it from AWS marketplaces with updated patches and kernel.
What do you dislike about the product?
There aren't many things I dislike about Centos 7, it's just that Centos 7 is no longer official, and we can not receive official updates.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The configuration is straightforward, with high availability and flexibility. Code changes are reflected immediately, which is quite beneficial to us.

Apache Webserver a good multipurpose tool in the web arsenal

    Reviewed on Jan 20, 2022
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
There are nearly infinite configuration options. The server is flexible, and meets the expectation of a modern web server.
What do you dislike about the product?
converting from prefork to MPM was a bit of a challenge. The documentation could be a bit better on that. There is also a not well documented feature about how Apache (2.4.37+) handles inter-server cookies -- this caused an issue on our website. I finally found the information I needed: Header always edit Set-Cookie (.*) "$1; SameSite=lax"
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
serving dynamic websites, interactive content, PWAs, microservices.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
consider your need. While Apache is a great web server, there are others that may fulfill your needs better. Make sure you understand what Apache has to offer versus another product like NGNX,
