Cisco ASA 5500-Series Firewalls
What do you like best about the product?
Cisco ASA5500 Series firewalls are very robust appliances. Between the ASDM interface and the CLI interface, most users will find management easy once you understand the basics of how the device works. Advance users will find tons of tools and debugging options for troubleshooting and granular management.
The appliances are powerful, allowing you to size your device for your user load. Cisco has a great chart to show you this plus the licensing schema. Contacting your Cisco Rep or partner is the best way to make sure you size your appliance the proper way.
Failover works extremely well if you are in an environment that cannot have downtime at your site.

What do you dislike about the product?
JAVA! The ASDM is still based on Java; the sooner Cisco can eliminate this, the better. The licensing schema can be a bit tough sometimes, so you need to make sure you check for what you need - especially on the VPN side of things.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using the ASA-5500 series firewalls (along with Sourefire IPS Modules) we are able to mitigate threats from our environment.
VPN Deployment has been great, and Cisco Support is second to none when it matters.
SourceFire IPS / IDS sensors have come a long way from Cisco's original in house IPS solution. The system is very robust and the management interface is light years ahead of the old management system.

What do you dislike about the product?
I like the product very well. sometimes it will not allow for sharing my screen
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
i am using for authorizing access
A critical product that should have the maximum reliability
What do you like best about the product?
The firewall cisco is an established product in the market and therefore very stable. It has a solid network distribution and so it is very simple to renew service support contracts. Their TAC (support team) have a great knowledge of the product and always we received good support .
What do you dislike about the product?
To be quite popular, the product is highly targeted, including by government teams (eg NSA case with modified ASA firmware). Other manufacturers are investing in products that can act in various application layers, providing better visibility of the network.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We need a product capable of providing effective network thread filtering (firewall/vpn) and high availability. The firewall cisco was able to meet the internal demands with full competence.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is a stable and consolidated product on the market. dot.
Deployed and maintained several Cisco ASA
What do you like best about the product?
Love the command line interface and logging. The logging is very useful for when issues are happening. Also the command line enables a lot of features and options for scripting when you have multiple firewalls. The pricing and product features are straight forward. VPN support and routing support were useful
What do you dislike about the product?
Out of the box does not have as many features as a Sonicwall or WatchGuard. The GUI, which can be enabled for users without command line knowledge, is slow and not always helpful when adding rules. Code and how you do NAT and fire walling changes drastically between versions and can be confusing when going between multiple firewalls, like in a MSP
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Firewall for networks. As advertised it was a solid firewall and never had hardware issues with them.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I have not used the new ASA X series but older firewalls are lacking features in other unified threat management systems.
