    Individual & Family Services

Fast and free dns protection.

  • December 21, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of setup. Range of features that you get for free. Content filtering.
What do you dislike about the product?
No complains so far. It stops working if you somehow are able to set your own dns server setting.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Improved confidence in that only "good" url's are visited.

Life saver for remote offices

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best feature to me is the accommodation of sites with static IP's. Their application keeps everything working by automatically updating IP addresses on the account
What do you dislike about the product?
We use some mediocre Linksys routers at our smaller remote offices that do not allow limiting the DNS that is used. To fix this, we have initialized group policies on each machine to prevent the service from being circumvented.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A lot of our smaller remote offices have limited bandwidth, where streaming video or music can make the VoIP call quality suffer. Cisco Umbrella helps with this.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you can limit the DNS IP access from each device on your network.

Easy to use for branch offices

  • December 07, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the easy deployment and the accommodation of sites without static IP addresses. They have an IP address application that automatically updates the IP address on the account identity to keep it working.
What do you dislike about the product?
Without a high-end router, the service is fairly easy to circumvent. Our mid-grade Linksys routers at our smaller branch do not allow for limiting the DNS that is used. To accomplish this, I have to initialize a group policy on each machine.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This has been especially helpful at our locations that have limited bandwidth. Locations where a streaming video or music application can make phone calls suffer.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ensure that you have the ability to limit the DNS IP accessed from each device on your network.

Set it and (mostly) forget it

What do you like best about the product?
Ever since I became a parent, I've been concerned about my child inadvertently stumbling upon age-inappropriate material on the internet. OpenDNS introduced me to network filtering via its free plan, and after some time, I decided the feature set and filter effectiveness were worth the modest annual subscription fee.
What do you dislike about the product?
The stats dashboard could use a more modern design, with graphics depicting performance of the filtering over time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can now access my home network for both business and personal use from multiple desktop, laptop, and mobile devices, confident that objectionable material is being prevented from even downloading itself.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you don't have an internet filtering service protecting your home or office network, get one. You can hardly go wrong with OpenDNS. It's easy to grasp, easy to deploy, and easy to administer.

  • September 09, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Simple cloud deployment and management. Flexible reporting. On premise appliance to ease deployments.
What do you dislike about the product?
Limitations of using a DNS-based solution mean content filtering isn't as powerful as other solutions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Needing a simple low-cost filtering solution

Easy to implement DNS security

  • May 08, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The software was extremely easy to use. We implemented in one day. The hosted console made it easy to control from the cloud. Blocking could be accomplished in several ways. Did not need an agent while in the office. Can be pushed at the DHCP level. This does not mean that users can not simply change their DNS, it simply prevents compliant users and not a determined users from finding a work around.
What do you dislike about the product?
Agent required to disallow changing of DNS or when offsite. Is not an all encompassing solution. Need something else to to provide full coverage to end users. Most antivirus solutions have similar solutions built directly into solution to accomplish with one product instead of two. To do user identification in a domain, an agent needs installed on the domain controller as well as some modifications via their scripts. This was deemed acceptable by management but could cause a stop to a deployment if you do not wish to have domain controller changes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Security of organization and users. Simplicity. Undetected to users in office. Little to no impact on users performance. Did require an agent for the more robust solution. This could be scripted and installed remotely after initial implementation as we did.

We realized instant results in blocking of malicious sites and were able to perform remediation.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Easy and inexpensive. Not an all encompassing security solution but a step in the right direction for anyone looking to track user activity and prevent malicious activities. This is only a piece of a well executed security plan.

Reliable and Fast DNS Server

  • February 25, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Lots of users suffer from unreliable Web access, because of their default DNS server. OpenDNS is a free, service that aims to improve the reliability and functionality of regular DNS servers provided bu your ISP
What do you dislike about the product?
Some TLS certificates need to be updated
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We block Adult websites and Gambling/Online betting websites with OpenDNS and it has not let us down
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Allow 3 to 5 minutes to your changes to propagate to all servers, after that it should be golden.
