Elephant in the room

  • September 09, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Maximo can be configured to do most anything. Inventory management, scheduling, work orders, transportation, preventative maintenance for any size corporation that needs asset management.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maximo is so all-encompassing that there is no focus on any particular field. The software can be configured to meet any requirements but this will require an in-house Maximo guru or a contract with an outside company. It can be programmed to anything you need if you have the necessary staffing or funds to outsource.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Work order processing, preventative maintenance scheduling, transportation module, repair history, lifetime costs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is a very expensive investment for most any company. An in-house Maximo guru is extremely valuable to maintain software issues, develop reports, configure to user needs, etc. Outside assistance is very costly, IBM assistance is almost non-existent to a private organization.

IBM Maximo at its maximum performance.

  • July 21, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Maximo Asset Management by IBM combines asset management with maintenance management. From a single system, companies can monitor and manage the complete lifecycle of their enterprise assets, including facilities, communications, transportation, production, infrastructure, and more. This centralized functionality ensures that users have visibility and control over active conditions and processes, while increasing productivity and reducing downtime.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maximo is a "all inclusive" software that can be used for whatever your business needs are; flexible enough to adapt to your company; and meets industry best practices to help establish process standards. Maximo UI is very easily configurable to provide a look that suits your needs and allows your legacy process workflow to be automated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When looking at software of this nature, consider having all your processes and related data in a single database. There will always be some integration necessary, however, consider Maximo as an ERP system that can manage most, if not all, of your needs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think that the establishment in France is a good thing. Maximo can be very complex during initial implementations and some upgrades.

Complex system with lots of customization, but performance is sub-par

  • June 11, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Customization: Data sets and usage can be customized to all ends.

Web app interface for our asset dictionary and software dictionary is clean and organized. Great setup for managing life cycle of various components within our systems.

**We use this system in relation to a few other IBM systems, Maximo being a fundamental piece.
What do you dislike about the product?
Performance. The scope of our use of Maximo is vast - many hundreds of users, and hundreds on hundreds of data sets for anything you can think. We also have scripting engines tied into some of the details to help automate some of our processes. With that said, one would hope the system would continue to function in a speedy manner. In peak times, we see a degradation in speed that can be frustrating at times.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asset management, asset dictionary, software dictionary and availability, knowledge management. This allows us to track deployment of various hardware pieces, and to plan for timely upgrades when appropriate. This definitely aids in our asset life cycle for our computers.

It is also a tool we use to manage our software dictionary and track/update software titles when appropriate.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ensure you use the tool to its potential. There are so many sets of data you can customize and pull. Which in itself can cause issues if your users are not properly trained. Ensure they know how to use the system to provide proper data for whatever you want to capture/track, etc.

A comprehensive management for all the company's assets

  • June 07, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
IBM Maximo Asset Management is the enterprise asset management (EAM) software solution product produced by IBM. It is a solution used to operate, maintain, and dispose of company assets. It focuses on asset types such as plants and production (for example, oil, gas, chemicals, mining, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food, electronics, and energy production) Infrastructure (including railways, roads, telecommunications, water and wastewater, and electricity and gas distribution networks) Transport (for military, airlines, trucking, shipping, rail, and other uses) Real estate and facilities (for example, in offices, schools, and hospitals)

Maximo is the basis of the Tivoli Automation Engine process, which is the central part of Tivoli Service Automation Manager and it has been licensed to other companies for more specific development.
What do you dislike about the product?
EAM is globally known for being critical in asset-intensive industries, namely, utilities, oil and gas, pharma, rail and public transport, heavy industry and facilities, including hospitals, campuses, and hotels.

The current version, IBM Maximo Asset Management 7.6, is the third version built on a J2EE service-oriented architecture. It is an enterprise asset management, service management, and IT asset management suite of applications that are scalable and easily integrated into existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Maximo is the foundation of the Tivoli Automation Engine process, which is the central part of Tivoli Service Automation Manager, and it has been licensed to other companies for more specific development.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Need for in-depth knowledge in management.

Powerful product but bloated and non intuitive. Also expensive.

  • June 05, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
My current organization used Assyst and this is MUCH better and more capable. We use it for management of Incidents, Service Requests and Changes which works great. You can attach documents and notifications work great, as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not very intuitive, however, and is very expensive between the implementation and custom development (Maximo developers are expensive!). There are cheaper products (or free) out there, that's for sure, that will give you the same functionality. As well, we are looking for ways to dynamically update IT assets (workstations, servers, routers, etc) but there appears to be no way to do that. Reporting is also very limited without springing for the extra reporting module.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Management of IT Incidents, Service Requests and Changes.

Excellent product, market leader not by chance

  • April 30, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Maximo is just leader for asset management, it manages everything about an asset lifecycle going from the acqusiition, to management of maintenance, to decomissioning. It can also manage very well workflows (let's say, acquisition approval and such), these can be configured to the detail to adhere perfectly to enterprise policies.
It is also very easily integrated with HR and cost management software such as SAP either by using it's official adapter or API's.

All in all maximo is the way to go for asset management
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface is a bit old, this is unfortunately often an issue with IBM products. Although the product is good and the interface is simple and cannot be too complicated, the interface could be improved with a little bit of eye candy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Asset management has become easier to implement and make it so that the company doesn't have to change it's policy to adapt to the software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For SAP integration it's best to just the API's without having to pay for the official adapter.

MAXIMO... HAs everything you need for Service Mgmt, but...

  • April 18, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best feature is the customizable desktop for techinicians. You can customize what each users sees in their main screen. This is great as you can put technical requests for techs, KPIs and reports for Quality Analysts, etc.
It is very important to perform a very detailed analysis of which your requirements will be at the beginning to ensure the initial configuration of the tool is well done. Not only for support teams, but also for the kind of services you will be handling from the tool. Maximo offers a bunch of data attributes to fill in, it is important you understand them, how they interact between each other, and how you would like to obtain the reports and data extracts. Maximo already has some default reports but you can develop new reports with the information you like, but don't forget to ensure all the fields you need are able to be reported. Some of them might not show up.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maybe it has too many fields that most of the organizations will never use as it is very demanding to fulfill them all.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was able to develop a lot of automated reports with combined data from multiple sources.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is important that if you acquire this product with IBM support of it, you request a dedicated database for you. Because if you share the database with other customers (even though you don't see the other customers, of course), customizing the tool becomes really complicated and the tool's response times go really down.

Maximo Asset Management

  • October 28, 2015
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Maximo is a very robust enterprise wide asset management solution that offers a full spectrum of CMMS, Work Management and Asset Management functions. Maximo is the only EAM that is delivered with GIS Integration, Mobility and powered by Analytics.
What do you dislike about the product?
The older user interface was not very appealing but the newest release now has an improved user interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are resellers, implementers and users of Maximo. We have experienced great benefit by basing our labor and expense reporting system on Maximo. Our client's have gained significant benefits from Maximo for a full range of work and asset management requirements.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Compare the core capabilities provided by Maximo with competitive products on the market and recognize the growth and future usability of the features that are bundled into the core product and add-on modules.
