In depth analysis of all the flows and streams in a large macrosystem
What do you like best about the product?
Continuous improvement of the program and implementation of new solutions that improve the monitoring and development of our system, ranking them among the best in the industry.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasionally, the implementation of certain new solutions may require certain adaptations in our system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Instana's monitoring gives us the ability to more easily identify bottlenecks in our system, analyze them, and thereby further customize and improve the product, leading to continued growth and development of our business.
beautiful APM
What do you like best about the product?
Simplicity and the clarity fo the interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
nothing for the moment, i totally agree this APM choice
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
the big benefit with this tool is the flow map to know where is the real problem
It's great but slow
What do you like best about the product?
It's fine. They sure try to sell their product.
What do you dislike about the product?
No issues, actually, business as usual. I wish they'd fix some bugs in their product, but that's fine.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using Instana monitoring tool for our servers and it works. Pricing is fine, considering the competition, but the agent agent eats almost 1/5 of cluster resources alone. It's very expensive resource wise. And it's client is java based which explains a lot.
One stop for all your APM needs
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to track even the infrastructure activities and issues related to the service. Also, the provision to get the complete stack trace of calls and the operations involved in the API call. Detailed analysis of the errors and issues is beneficial while trying to solve a problem as it gives a holistic view.
What do you dislike about the product?
For Golang applications, the integration can be made a little easier, and the support for out-of-the-box distributed tracing of Database operations, HTTP calls, Redis opeartions and/or any I/O operations will be very beneficial.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Instana as an APM tool where we monitor the traffic of our micro-service in terms of API hits, response time for those APIs, errors occurred, infrastructure-related issues and warnings. Instana is our go-to tool to debug in case we see any abnormal behaviour in our micro-service. Debugging with the help of Instana is fast and effective as it provides all the data needed to resolve the issue with its clear and concise dashboards.
An End to End APM tool with amazing add ons and capabilities.
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of installation, alert configuration, auto-discovery feature, capability to add on various features such as enhanced logging, website (FrontEnd) monitoring and technical support from the Instana team were some of the best things about Instana.
What do you dislike about the product?
Integration and know-how regarding Instana among the other IBM companies, especially Kyndryl, would have definitely enhanced the Client experience wherever the applications and servers are hosted over IBM Cloud.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Real time 24/7 monitoring of our applications ensures no downtime and quick service restoration in case of any issues leading to a better customer experience.
Better analysis of issues due to real-time alerts along with both server-level logs as well as the application-level logs which provide better insights as to whether the issue is from an infra level or application level

We use Instana to monitor server performance on our application servers
What do you like best about the product?
I like looking at historical performance information on all my hosts. The historical view allows us to go back in time and investigate events and review system usage over time.
We heavily leverage the integration between Intana and Atlassian Opsgenie for tracking resource usage events. It has become a vital part of our alert handling in our production environments to ensure performance and uptime

What do you dislike about the product?
The interface takes a little bit of time to get used to, but once you understand the flow of the screens and how to leverage the tool functionality, it becomes very powerful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a one stop platform for reviewing performance monitoring for all of our platform hosts for our whole organization. This helps give a holistic view of how a system is performing and why as well as giving the ability to drill deeply into the details of what is going on beyond basic resource utilization statistics.
Digging deep into performace stats
What do you like best about the product?
It really helps us identify the performance bottlenecks in our applications.
What do you dislike about the product?
It requires quite a lot of resources on it's own, diminishing the gains we can achieve from performance optizations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Performance issues -> Better user experience
Resource usage optimization -> smaller infrastructure bills

An overall great tool for the engineering team
What do you like best about the product?
Where do I even start. There's so much to explore and make use of. I've only probably used like 30% of what this tool has to offer. And I do this very easily with it:
1. See critical incidents, set up alerts, analyze all other services' states in the range of time in which an incident occurred
2. Amazing log analysis, infra ingress and egress monitoring, filtering, aggregation, code flows, super detailed drill down of API calls down to the last DB call and finding bottlenecks
3. amazing filtering options. I only use like 3-4 but even with them it's so easy to pinpoint to a time and app state that I want to see.
4. love the short url shortcut so much - it's a very small thing, but very useful when needing to share 10s of such links per debugging session. more apps should generate short links because nobody likes to see the whole query in a link.
5. if you're new to a company, it's a great tool for practically understanding the infra setup and monitor the innards using the amazing dashboard with its range selection that can be highligted across all services' charts in real time, to help you pinpoint problems even more easily.

What do you dislike about the product?
If I google instana, there's no link I can open from the website that I can login to my company's account from. this makes it hard to login - i have to keep my company's login url handy.
I wish there were a way to check POST bod- that would making debugging easier
I think that's about it. Not much to dislike.

monitoring CIs by setting up alerts and using dashboards
analyzing logs for debugging issues and infra issues
monitoring infra health using dashboards
monitoring specific parts of the app for a temporary time
learning infra layout

Useful tooling
What do you like best about the product?
The way Instana provides a great way to provide great insight into the run time performance of an application, including upstream and downstream calls along with the run time of those as well as the result
What do you dislike about the product?
There do appear to be some issues when using iIstana with AWS serverless - we have seen instances when the use of an Instana wrapper on a Node JS Lambda has resulted in errors being 'swallowed' / hidden even though the appropriate try...catch blocks were in place
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A simple way to add run time monitoring to an application with that monitoring giving an interactive view so that not only can you see statistics on the core application (such as latency, return codes etc) but also drill down into upstream and downstream calls.
The ability to quickly change the time period being evaluated and also have a live view is also incredibly valuable to spot patterns
